Telangana Congress, at an all-time low, looks hopeless toward upcoming Telangana polls

The Telangana Congress (TPCC) and especially its chief, Revanth Reddy, face an acid test to remain relevant in state politics as the Telangana assembly polls are only a few months away, scheduled at the end of 2023. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making every effort to become the principal opponent to the ruling BRS party, which seems to have done it successfully.

So far, as Grand old Congress party was considered the main opposition in Telangana against the ruling BRS, but the BJP has taken its place as Congress has suffered a massive defection and internal fights. On the other side, BJP has got a large-scale cadre and improved its tally electorally as well.

It is going to be around 9 years since the formation of Telangana as a separate state from United Andhra Pradesh; the Congress party still appears clueless about making its narrative and regaining the lost ground in one of its former stronghold regions.

Spinning from mass defections of several leaders and legislators during the last 8 and-a-half years and humiliating defeats in by-elections with losing its deposits, the party looks to be in a mess. Infighting and lack of any figure of a charismatic leader have added to the despairs of the grand old party.

Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra has brought some enthusiasm to raise the spirit of TPCC's demoralized cadre for some time. The TPCC chief - Revanth Reddy, is trying his best to keep the momentum up with the ongoing padayatra as part of the new campaign - "Hath Se Hath Jodo."
