Free Kanti Velugu Eye camps organized by Telangana Govt. attract lakhs of people

Lakhs of daily-wage earners, farm workers, farmers, and others attended the second phase of Kanti Velugu, a free eye check-up drive organized by the BRS-led Telangana government. The Delhi Chief Minister got impressed with this unique scheme of the Telangana Government and desired to implement the same in his ruling state - Delhi.
Chief Minister KCR on January 18 launched the "Free Kanti Velugu" second phase, just before he addressed a mammoth public meeting at Khammam, Telangana, attended by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, and Ex. Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav and CPI general secretary D Raja were also present on occasion.
Finance Minister T Harish Rao conveyed that 33,60,301 people had undergone eye examinations and that 6,76,732 have received free spectacles in the second phase so far.
"The most important organ of the human body is the eye. If the eye's vision is poor, life is filled with darkness. For those suffering from eye-related problems, the Telangana government has introduced the Kanti Velugu scheme for a blindness-free Telangana. Encouraged by the success of the 1st phase, the government is executing its 2nd phase on a large scale," adding that the allocation had been doubled to Rs 200 crore for the 2nd phase.
