Manipur Issue: The Opposition Leader, Jairam Ramesh, attacks the Modi Government

The BJP has abandoned the issue of Manipur as the country continues to look towards the BJP's Modi Government for the solution to the Manipur crisis. The opposition parties, especially Congress, have rapidly attacked the Modi Government over the more than 5 months-old Manipur crisis. The Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi can not "escape accountability and responsibility by completely ignoring the crisis."

"The people of Manipur and the entire Northeast are closely watching how Prime Minister Narendra Modi has abandoned the state of Manipur at a time when his intervention and outreach were needed the most," Ramesh said in a video message shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

CM Gehlot said, "A woman once told me that, god willing, you should become Chief Minister for the fourth time. So, I told her that I want to leave the post of the chief minister, but this post is not leaving me, and probably won't ever,".

Even the BJP's NDA alliance leader, the Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga, has recently said that he will not share a stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he comes to campaign for the next month - Mizoram assembly elections.

"The people of Mizoram are all Christians. When the people of Manipur (Meities) burned hundreds of churches in Manipur, they (Mizos) were totally against that kind of idea. To have sympathy with the BJP at this time will be a big minus point for my point for my party," Zoramthanga told BBC News.

Manipur ethnic violence between the Hindu Dominated - Meitei and Christian-dominated - Kuki Communities in Manipur erupted on May 3 and has been ongoing for over 5 months now and has left over hundreds dead, many raped. Hundreds have been injured, there has been no news of thaw between the two communities in the state so far, and the Modi Government has been refraining from revealing enough on the current situation.

The Entire Opposition and people across the nation are waiting for PM Modi to speak and his appeal to maintain peace and calm to the people of Manipur, but PM Modi has maintained constant silence. The Modi Government has also not asked for the resignation of CM - N. Biren Singh. The Manipur riots that have brought up shame, mass destruction, and killings have not been handled well by the BJP-led Ruling Governments at the Manipur State and Centre. The Opposition has been calling for the resignation of the Manipur CM - N. Biren Singh, as the BJP Government rules Manipur, and the BJP also rules at the Centre. So, the Opposition is asking the Government to be accountable for the Manipur Riots.
