In a major jolt to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Telangana State Assembly elections, former Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy announced his resignation from the BJP on Wednesday.
In his resignation letter, the former MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy said: "The opposition to the government in the State is at an extreme level. People want change. Telangana should be freed from the KCR family rule. I think my ambition will be fulfilled in 5 weeks. As an alternative to BRS, I have decided that the people should act according to the Congress and people's ideas.
A year and a half ago, the BJP emerged as an alternative to the ruling BRS in Telangana. Now, people are offering Congress as an alternative to BRS. That is why I also decided to act according to the thoughts of the Telangana people. I never aspired for positions. I strived for the interests of Telangana."
Since Mr. Rajgopal Reddy lost the Munugode by-poll to BRS candidate, there were reports that he would soon be joining back the Congress, which he has now joined. As per the reports, Mr. Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy had been under extreme pressure from his elder brother, Congress stalwart, and Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy to return to the Congress.
BJP hoped to give a push to its plans in the State of Telangana to reemerge as the alternative to the BRS with a victory in the Munugode bypoll. Still, the BJP lost the high-stakes Munugode bypoll, and the candidate of BRS won, which further helped BRS to strengthen its position in Telangana.
