BJP delegation complains to Andhra Pradesh Governor against the move to give Dalit Christians SC Status

Somu Veerraju, BJP Andhra Pradesh unit president, has complained to the recently appointed Governor of AP, Abdul Nazeer, against the resolution cleared in the AP State Legislative Assembly by the ruling YSRCP to grant Scheduled Caste (SC) status to Dalit Christians.
The BJP called the move a 'random decision that would promote religious conversions and build hatred between religions. The BJP leaders, who staged a demonstration against the move at Dharna Chowk (Main Street) in the city on 27th March, stressed that the resolution was also 'against to the Hindu Dalits as it will make a competition with Dalit Christians for reservations.'
The BJP leaders demanded that Mr. Nazeer, the AP Governor, should direct the State government of Andhra Pradesh to nullify the resolution, which is 'against the spirit of the Constitution of India.'
Addressing the demonstrators, Mr. Veerraju said that the resolution reflected CM Y.S. Jagan Reddy's intention to appease the Christians. He also alleged that Chief Minister Jagan Reedy had allotted valuable government land to construct churches, which is against the norms. This move is seen as an attempt to lure Christian voters into the purview of the upcoming Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections.
“The Bharatiya Janata Party will not tolerate the politics of appeasement of the minorities. How can a State government move a resolution in the Assembly when the matter (recognizing Dalit Christians as Scheduled Castes) is pending adjudication in the Supreme Court?” Mr. Veerraju asked.
