Since the BJP-led Modi Government took over power in 2014, there have been multiple incidents, especially the most controversial ones in the last couple of years, which have put a question mark on whether Democracy is still alive in India and India is still ruled as per the Constitution of India?
Over the last years, the country has witnessed multiple cases where a blatant breach of the Constitution and an attack on Democracy can be clearly seen. Incidents ranging from Live Camera Cheating in the Chandigarh Mayor Elections in 2022 and most recently in 2024 that favored the BJP, Bulldozer razing homes and livelihoods of people in States currently ruled by the BJP, Blatant use of Central Investigation Agencies agencies against the Opposition Leaders to Bulldozing the Waqf's Centuries-Old Mosques and Religious Places without any notice or information.
If one looks at the recent case of Chandigarh Mayoral Elections, the elections to the posts of mayor, senior deputy mayor, and deputy mayor in Chandigarh were held a few days back, and the BJP won all, defeating the Congress-AAP alliance.
There are 36 councillors in Chandigarh. "Out of them, 16 belong to the BJP and 20 to the AAP and the Congress (INDIA bloc). Accordingly, the mayor and deputy mayor should have been from the INDIA alliance."
But, the presiding officer worked as a BJP worker...he didn't allow any county agent during the counting of votes and counted votes himself...he declared around eight votes for the INDIA bloc invalid without giving any proper reason. He declared the BJP Candidate the winner and made the BJP candidate the Mayor of Chandigarh.
The Delhi CM and AAP Chief said, "In the last few years, we had heard that BJP rigs polls. They tamper with EVMs and get the names of voters deleted from voter lists, but no evidence was ever found. They were caught red-handed in Chandigarh stealing votes,".
"If they can indulge in such irregularities in the Chandigarh mayoral polls, imagine what would they be doing in Lok Sabha and assembly elections? They can sell the country for power, but we will not allow them to do it. We have to save Democracy and country," the Delhi CM said.
