Mukarram Jah was linked to two of the most well-known royal dynasties of the Muslim world. Durrushehvar, his mother, was the only daughter of Abdul Majid, the last Caliph (Khalifa) of Islam who was sent into exile by the Republic of Turkiye's Founder, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who abolished the Caliphate. The latter's father was Azam Jah, the eldest son of Hyderabad's Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan, whose kingdom was merged with India on September 18, 1948.
