Former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar appointed as
Cabinet Rank Chief Advisor to CM KCR

The Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao appointed Former Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar as Chief Advisor to him on Tuesday in Hyderabad. And with this order, the Ex CS to CM becomes the Chief Advisor to CM in the rank of a cabinet minister for a period of 3 years now.
KCR appointed Somesh Kumar as Chief Secretary of the State of Telangana in December 2019. He served for 3 years as a CS before stepping down in January this year. And, as directed by the Telangana High Court, Mr. Somesh Kumar was ordered to move to Andhra Pradesh. Then, He instead opted for voluntary retirement from service in February 2023 and now lands in a more powerful position.
The 1989 batch bureaucrat was the 5th and longest-serving Chief Secretary (CS) in Telangana and is known for spearheading several flagship initiatives of the BRS-led K. Chandrashekhar Rao's government.
arlier, After the bifurcation of the State in 2014, he was posted to Andhra Pradesh by the Department of Personnel Training (DOPT). Still, as directed by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) , Mr. Kumar continued with the Government of Telangana and worked for CM Telangana - KCR. The CAT order allotting him to Telangana was challenged by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in the Telangana High Court after the court finally asked the Govt. of Telangana to relieve him, enabling him to join the government of Andhra Pradesh.
In honor of the services extended by Mr. Somesh Kumar for the development of the Telangana State, CM KCR now inducted him into his core team as chief advisor, which is a cabinet-rank position.
