BJP MP Varun Gandhi: The BJP's critic within the house, looking for future options?

BJP MP Varun Gandhi, the Son of the Late. Sanjay Gandhi and the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family have been in the news for attacking his own - BJP party and making statements contrary to party lines signaling a possible shift for the 2024 General Elections.

Here are a few of his statements made recently:

  • Support politicians who raise the issues of the jobs crisis, inflation, and corruption.
  • PNB scam accused Mehul Choksi tops the list of those who received government freebies.
  • In this Hindu-Muslim politics, people are being pushed to fight each other like dogs and cats.
  • Indira Gandhi's willpower changed the world map.
Those who follow Indian politics closely know that BJP's 3 Times MP Varun Gandhi has been taking stands on people-centric issues via his tweets, newspaper articles, and public and Parliament speeches, which are not in line with the BJP's official position. It causes shame and embarrassment to the BJP and Modi Government, giving the opposition a shot to sharpen its attacks on the BJP.
Varun has also served as a BJP National General Secretary, In-Charge of West Bengal, and Her Mother and BJP's MP has served as a Union Cabinet Minister. Varun lost his position as the party national general secretary in 2014 and the West Bengal affairs In-charge, and her mother was also dropped from Ministership in PM Modi's 2.0.
Twenty years back, the BJP got the Gandhis on his side to weaken the Congress party and also to send a message to the Nation that even Gandhis do not endorse the Grand Old Congress Party. But, this message has outlived its utility as the GOP has gone through an existential crisis over the past few years. But the Gandhis feel alienated or powerless with their declining power and stature in the saffron party, which pushes them to look the other way.
Would Varun and Maneka Gandhi be planning to contest from the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) or the Samajwadi Party (SP) in 2024, or are the Gandhis looking back to the Congress Party after 20 years remains a question? Varun has never said bad things about his cousins Rahul, Priyanka, or aunt Sonia Gandhi. Does that mean a window of reconciliation is open toward Congress? Will he go to his father's party?
The Congress has invited him to join the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra. His response and upcoming actions will clarify where he is supposed to secure his political career.
