Popular actor Vijay has begun the process of launching his own political party in Tamil Nadu. According to sources, Vijay has been elected as party president. "We are in the process of registering the political party with the Election Commission of India (ECI)," said Vijay's key team member to NDTV. Sources say that around 200 members of the party's general council had attended a meeting ahead of the political party registration.
The party's General Secretary and Treasurer have been appointed, and a Central Executive Committee has been constituted as well. The council has authorized Vijay to decide on the name and registration of the party and take the dip into electoral politics.
Recently, he organized a constituency-wise program to honor and felicitate toppers students in public exams. He had then advised students "to read about leaders like Ambedkar, Periyar, Kamaraj. Take what's good and leave the rest."
Vijay, the popular Tamil actor, is all set to take up new responsibilities for the people of Tamil Nadu, apart from entertaining them through his movies. The 49-year-old actor, who is much younger than the average politician in the state, is gearing up to join the political fray. Along with other young politicians, such as DMK's Udhayanidhi Stalin (46) and state BJP president K Annamalai (38), Vijay is expected to bring a fresh and dynamic perspective to the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.

He enjoys a massive following among fans from diverse age groups, which sets him apart from the older demographic of Rajinikanth's fan base.
In contrast to Rajinikanth, who has faced criticism for his Marathi roots and associations with the BJP and the RSS, Vijay is seen as a strong Tamil nationalist.
