The BJP has been in Power in the MCD for the last 15 years, and the AAP aims to take control of the civic body for Delhi voted yesterday, and the votes will be counted on December 7. The election, earlier scheduled for March-April this year, was delayed after the BJP-led Union Govt. announced a delimitation exercise in the capital city to reorganize the Wards based on the growing population.
The Union Government Unified North, East, and South - 3 municipal corporations into one strong MCD this time have made it of much political significance. If BJP wins the Elections, it will give the BJP a chance and platform to further strategize its politics against Arvind Kejriwal. If the AAP loses this election, then CM Kejriwal will have to face a setback in running the Delhi Govt as the Delhi Govt. already shares its Powers with the L.G. of Delhi. Additionally, due to the unification of MCD, this time, the mayor of MCD will be roughly as powerful as the Chief Minister. That would leave AAP with a limited Scope and Power to operate.
On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party and its Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, working by leaps and bounds to expand across the Nation after its Glorious win in Punjab, look at Delhi Civic Polls as a matter of legacy and existence. AAP aiming to take over and replace the Congres's role as the main opposition party against the Ruling BJP, has higher ambition and may pave the road of decline in its home state if it loses in MCD polls. In comparison, for the BJP, it does not matter to such an extent if it loses Power in MCD as BJP has already won much bigger elections like UP, M.P. Assam, Uttarakhand, and many others.
